Struggling with Date Palm — would appreciate advice

I want to be honest: I'm not getting great results with Date Palm and I'm not entirely sure why. crown damage and death in severe or prolonged frost has been a recurring problem despite my attempts to address it. I've been focusing on planting in free-draining soil to prevent crown rot based on everything I've read.

I have it in a Mediterranean or exotic themed garden border which might not be ideal. best planting and repotting in late spring as soil warms showed some improvement. Two stars for now — not the plant's fault, but not a success yet. I'll update if things improve.
