I brought Date Palm home six months ago with high hopes and almost no knowledge. The first challenge was understanding planting in free-draining soil to prevent crown rot — something I hadn't expected to matter so much. Once I got that right, the whole thing settled down.

I grow it in a large decorative pot as a patio centrepiece and the position has been ideal. instantly transformative architectural presence in any setting is what keeps drawing me back to it. best planting and repotting in late spring as soil warms was the moment that made me glad I persisted through the learning curve. One honest warning: crown damage and death in severe or prolonged frost caught me off guard in month two. Stay on top of it from the start.
