A year of growing Areca Palm — detailed seasonal notes
Here are my notes from twelve months of growing Areca Palm:
Spring: cold weather protection needed in winter for tender varieties. This was the moment that confirmed the whole venture. I focused on planting in free-draining soil to prevent crown rot during this period which set up the rest of the year.
long-lived structure that becomes more impressive over decades developed steadily through the warmer months. crown damage and death in severe or prolonged frost appeared in summer and required prompt treatment. The plant in a poolside or coastal garden planting performed better than I'd expected for the position. Overall: a rewarding year. The investment of attention is paid back generously.
