Honest review: Areca Palm is rewarding but slow recovery from transplant shock when moved as large specimens is real
Areca Palm is a genuinely satisfying plant to grow, but I want to be upfront about one thing: slow recovery from transplant shock when moved as large specimens. I've dealt with it twice now and it takes consistent attention to manage.
Beyond that, remarkable toughness once properly established makes it one of my favourites in the collection. I keep it in a warm conservatory or bright atrium which suits it well. Learning about wrapping the crown with fleece in winter for borderline hardy species has been essential. new frond production visible in spring and early summer is worth waiting for — the plant really justifies itself then. Four stars because of that persistent issue.
