I had a serious problem with crown damage and death in severe or prolonged frost on my Areca Palm earlier this year. Caught it late and had to work hard to bring the plant back. The experience was frustrating but educational.

Now that it's healthy again I can fully appreciate long-lived structure that becomes more impressive over decades, which is remarkable. I've repositioned it in a poolside or coastal garden planting and improved my attention to feeding with a palm-specific slow-release fertiliser in spring. new frond production visible in spring and early summer was the proof that the plant had fully recovered — genuinely beautiful. Moral of the story: inspect regularly and catch problems early.
