Container growing Zygopetalum — a practical guide from experience
I don't have a garden so a north or east-facing windowsill is my only option for Zygopetalum. It absolutely works — with the right attention to repotting into fresh bark medium every two or three years you can get excellent results in containers.
extraordinary bloom longevity lasting weeks to months is fully achievable even in a pot. rest period in summer with focus on leaf and root growth is just as impressive in a container as it would be in the ground, possibly more so because the plant is at closer viewing distance. The main issue to watch in containers: failure to rebloom without a temperature drop trigger. Happens faster than in the ground. Highly recommend for balcony and patio gardeners.
