Struggling with Miltoniopsis — would appreciate advice

I want to be honest: I'm not getting great results with Miltoniopsis and I'm not entirely sure why. crown rot from water sitting in the leaf crown has been a recurring problem despite my attempts to address it. I've been focusing on providing bright indirect light away from direct afternoon sun based on everything I've read.

wide hybridisation resulting in an almost unlimited colour range is there in glimpses, which tells me the plant has potential in my conditions. I have it in a decorative cachepot for a formal living room which might not be ideal. triggering a new flower spike with cooler autumn nights showed some improvement. Two stars for now — not the plant's fault, but not a success yet. I'll update if things improve.
