Container growing Cattleya — a practical guide from experience
I don't have a garden so a grouping with other tropical plants for humidity is my only option for Cattleya. It absolutely works — with the right attention to feeding with a half-strength orchid fertiliser weekly in summer you can get excellent results in containers.
wide hybridisation resulting in an almost unlimited colour range is fully achievable even in a pot. triggering a new flower spike with cooler autumn nights is just as impressive in a container as it would be in the ground, possibly more so because the plant is at closer viewing distance. The main issue to watch in containers: scale insects on pseudobulbs and undersides of leaves. Happens faster than in the ground. Highly recommend for balcony and patio gardeners.
