The unexpected joy of growing Chinese Evergreen
I planted Chinese Evergreen without expecting much and it's become one of the most satisfying things in my garden. straightforward propagation by division, cuttings, or offsets is something I couldn't have predicted from looking at it in a nursery. You only understand it once the plant is established and performing.
I keep it in a grouped arrangement for a humidity-raising effect which is perfect for it. checking soil moisture before watering rather than watering on a fixed schedule was the thing I got lucky getting right early. growth spurt when longer days arrive in spring stopped me in my tracks the first time I saw it. fungus gnats in consistently damp potting compost is a real thing — just check regularly and deal with it quickly.
