The unexpected joy of growing Mint

I planted Mint without expecting much and it's become one of the most satisfying things in my garden. dual purpose as ornamental plant and culinary ingredient is something I couldn't have predicted from looking at it in a nursery. You only understand it once the plant is established and performing.

I keep it in a dedicated raised herb bed near the back door which is perfect for it. planting in free-draining soil in the sunniest spot was the thing I got lucky getting right early. drying or freezing surplus growth in late summer stopped me in my tracks the first time I saw it. bolting in hot dry weather especially with cilantro is a real thing — just check regularly and deal with it quickly.
