I planted Chives at entirely the wrong point in the growing calendar and spent the first few months wondering what I'd done wrong. bolting in hot dry weather especially with cilantro didn't help matters. Once I understood harvesting regularly to prevent plants going to seed things improved substantially.

fast growing from seed or small plug plant is what makes this plant worth persisting with. In a hanging basket with trailing herbs like thyme it finally looks as good as I'd imagined. peak harvest productivity through summer redeemed the whole effort. If you're starting out: do your timing research before you plant.
