I don't have a garden so a large half-barrel container on a sunny patio is my only option for Lemon Tree. It absolutely works — with the right attention to formative pruning in the first three years to build good structure you can get excellent results in containers.

harvest of home-grown fruit with exceptional fresh flavour is fully achievable even in a pot. blossom opening in spring requiring frost protection is just as impressive in a container as it would be in the ground, possibly more so because the plant is at closer viewing distance. The main issue to watch in containers: fireblight bacterial disease affecting pears and apples. Happens faster than in the ground. Highly recommend for balcony and patio gardeners.
