Honest review: Lemon Tree is rewarding but biennial bearing producing a heavy crop every other year is real

Lemon Tree is a genuinely satisfying plant to grow, but I want to be upfront about one thing: biennial bearing producing a heavy crop every other year. I've dealt with it twice now and it takes consistent attention to manage.

Beyond that, long productive lifespan of decades with good management makes it one of my favourites in the collection. I keep it in a sheltered south or west-facing garden wall as an espalier which suits it well. Learning about formative pruning in the first three years to build good structure has been essential. winter pruning while the tree is dormant is worth waiting for — the plant really justifies itself then. Four stars because of that persistent issue.
