Started Lemon Tree at the wrong time — lessons learned

I planted Lemon Tree at entirely the wrong point in the growing calendar and spent the first few months wondering what I'd done wrong. biennial bearing producing a heavy crop every other year didn't help matters. Once I understood formative pruning in the first three years to build good structure things improved substantially.

dual ornamental and productive value in a garden is what makes this plant worth persisting with. In a fan-trained shape on a warm boundary fence it finally looks as good as I'd imagined. winter pruning while the tree is dormant redeemed the whole effort. If you're starting out: do your timing research before you plant.
