Overrated for ease, underrated for beauty — Cherry Tree
People describe Cherry Tree as easy and I'd push back on that slightly. mulching around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds needs consistent attention and codling moth larvae in fruit at harvest can undermine progress quickly if ignored.
Where Cherry Tree is genuinely underrated is the beauty. dual ornamental and productive value in a garden is extraordinary when you see it in person. I display it in a sheltered south or west-facing garden wall as an espalier and it gets comments from everyone who sees it. fruitlet setting and development through summer is the time to really understand what this plant offers. Not for the truly neglectful gardener, but absolutely worth the attention it requires.
