I brought Cherry Tree home six months ago with high hopes and almost no knowledge. The first challenge was understanding formative pruning in the first three years to build good structure — something I hadn't expected to matter so much. Once I got that right, the whole thing settled down.

I grow it in a sheltered south or west-facing garden wall as an espalier and the position has been ideal. harvest of home-grown fruit with exceptional fresh flavour is what keeps drawing me back to it. harvest from late summer through autumn depending on variety was the moment that made me glad I persisted through the learning curve. One honest warning: fireblight bacterial disease affecting pears and apples caught me off guard in month two. Stay on top of it from the start.
