Honest review: Cherry Tree is rewarding but fireblight bacterial disease affecting pears and apples is real
Cherry Tree is a genuinely satisfying plant to grow, but I want to be upfront about one thing: fireblight bacterial disease affecting pears and apples. I've dealt with it twice now and it takes consistent attention to manage.
Beyond that, blossom spectacle in spring before any other ornamental value makes it one of my favourites in the collection. I keep it in a sheltered south or west-facing garden wall as an espalier which suits it well. Learning about mulching around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds has been essential. fruitlet setting and development through summer is worth waiting for — the plant really justifies itself then. Four stars because of that persistent issue.
