Gift that became an obsession — Apple Tree
Someone gave me Apple Tree as a birthday gift and I barely knew what it was. Two years later it's my most treasured plant and I've spent more time researching it than I'd care to admit.
The key discovery was formative pruning in the first three years to build good structure — once that clicked, the plant transformed. dual ornamental and productive value in a garden is what gets mentioned every time anyone visits. I keep it in an orchard with mixed varieties for cross-pollination which works perfectly. fruitlet setting and development through summer is when I understand why this plant has such devoted followers. fireblight bacterial disease affecting pears and apples is the one ongoing challenge but it's worth the effort.
