Started Apple Tree at the wrong time — lessons learned
I planted Apple Tree at entirely the wrong point in the growing calendar and spent the first few months wondering what I'd done wrong. fireblight bacterial disease affecting pears and apples didn't help matters. Once I understood mulching around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds things improved substantially.
harvest of home-grown fruit with exceptional fresh flavour is what makes this plant worth persisting with. In a specimen tree as a garden focal point it finally looks as good as I'd imagined. harvest from late summer through autumn depending on variety redeemed the whole effort. If you're starting out: do your timing research before you plant.
