Container growing Sword Fern — a practical guide from experience
I don't have a garden so a fern wall or vertical garden in a shaded courtyard is my only option for Sword Fern. It absolutely works — with the right attention to removing dead fronds cleanly at the base in spring you can get excellent results in containers.
prehistoric elegance with delicate layered fronds is fully achievable even in a pot. spectacular new crozier unfurling in spring is just as impressive in a container as it would be in the ground, possibly more so because the plant is at closer viewing distance. The main issue to watch in containers: scale insects on the undersides of fronds. Happens faster than in the ground. Highly recommend for balcony and patio gardeners.
