The propagation success I didn't expect with Maidenhair Fern
I started with one Maidenhair Fern and now have four, all from propagation. The process is straightforward once you understand misting the fronds in dry centrally heated rooms — something I picked up from trial and error rather than any guide.
I display them in a woodland garden understorey planting which shows off dramatic unfurling fiddle-head growth in spring at its best. frond dieback in winter for deciduous species is when they're most impressive. crown death from frost on tender varieties has been my main challenge across all of them, but it's manageable now that I know what to look for. A genuinely generous plant if you let it be.
