I don't have a garden so an outdoor container brought in for winter is my only option for Prickly Pear. It absolutely works — with the right attention to providing the sunniest window or outdoor position available you can get excellent results in containers.

architectural sculptural form that needs no flowers to impress is fully achievable even in a pot. flowering in late spring to early summer is just as impressive in a container as it would be in the ground, possibly more so because the plant is at closer viewing distance. The main issue to watch in containers: scarring from cold water splash on the skin. Happens faster than in the ground. Highly recommend for balcony and patio gardeners.
