Slow start but a stunning finish with Organ Pipe Cactus

The first few months with Organ Pipe Cactus were underwhelming. Almost no visible growth and I questioned my decision repeatedly. Then something shifted — I think getting protecting from frost below -5°C even for hardy varieties right was the turning point.

extremely long-lived with minimal intervention became apparent once the plant found its stride, and it's genuinely impressive. Displayed in a dry garden rockery or gravel bed it gets the attention it deserves. complete dormancy in winter with no watering was the moment it stopped being a project and became a pleasure. One thing to keep on top of: scarring from cold water splash on the skin. Everything else takes care of itself once the basics are solid.
