The propagation success I didn't expect with Christmas Cactus
I started with one Christmas Cactus and now have four, all from propagation. The process is straightforward once you understand protecting from frost below -5°C even for hardy varieties — something I picked up from trial and error rather than any guide.
I display them in an outdoor container brought in for winter which shows off spectacular but brief blooms that can appear overnight at its best. offsetting and pup production in spring is when they're most impressive. scarring from cold water splash on the skin has been my main challenge across all of them, but it's manageable now that I know what to look for. A genuinely generous plant if you let it be.
