Container growing Barrel Cactus — a practical guide from experience
I don't have a garden so an outdoor container brought in for winter is my only option for Barrel Cactus. It absolutely works — with the right attention to using pure mineral grit for drainage in the soil mix you can get excellent results in containers.
extremely long-lived with minimal intervention is fully achievable even in a pot. complete dormancy in winter with no watering is just as impressive in a container as it would be in the ground, possibly more so because the plant is at closer viewing distance. The main issue to watch in containers: spider mites in warm dry indoor conditions. Happens faster than in the ground. Highly recommend for balcony and patio gardeners.
