Pest battle with Camassia — and how I won
I had a serious problem with narcissus fly larvae tunnelling into the base of the bulb on my Camassia earlier this year. Caught it late and had to work hard to bring the plant back. The experience was frustrating but educational.
Now that it's healthy again I can fully appreciate wide range of flower forms, heights, and flowering times, which is remarkable. I've repositioned it in a container for a doorstep or patio display and improved my attention to lifting and drying tender bulbs before autumn frosts. summer bulbs like gladiolus and allium extending the season was the proof that the plant had fully recovered — genuinely beautiful. Moral of the story: inspect regularly and catch problems early.
