I don't have a garden so a Japanese-inspired garden display with gravel and stone is my only option for Wisteria Bonsai. It absolutely works — with the right attention to repotting every two to three years with root pruning you can get excellent results in containers.

deeply personal relationship between artist and tree is fully achievable even in a pot. repotting temperate species in early spring before buds break is just as impressive in a container as it would be in the ground, possibly more so because the plant is at closer viewing distance. The main issue to watch in containers: over-wiring causing wire bite scarring on branches. Happens faster than in the ground. Highly recommend for balcony and patio gardeners.
