I don't have a garden so a purpose-built outdoor bonsai bench with correct height is my only option for Ficus Bonsai. It absolutely works — with the right attention to styling with the front and viewing angle in mind from day one you can get excellent results in containers.

miniaturisation of full-grown tree characteristics is fully achievable even in a pot. autumn colour on deciduous species before leaf fall is just as impressive in a container as it would be in the ground, possibly more so because the plant is at closer viewing distance. The main issue to watch in containers: over-wiring causing wire bite scarring on branches. Happens faster than in the ground. Highly recommend for balcony and patio gardeners.
