The propagation success I didn't expect with Chinese Elm Bonsai
I started with one Chinese Elm Bonsai and now have four, all from propagation. The process is straightforward once you understand repotting every two to three years with root pruning — something I picked up from trial and error rather than any guide.
I display them in a purpose-built outdoor bonsai bench with correct height which shows off miniaturisation of full-grown tree characteristics at its best. winter rest with protection from extreme frost for most species is when they're most impressive. over-wiring causing wire bite scarring on branches has been my main challenge across all of them, but it's manageable now that I know what to look for. A genuinely generous plant if you let it be.
