Slow start but a stunning finish with Chinese Elm Bonsai

The first few months with Chinese Elm Bonsai were underwhelming. Almost no visible growth and I questioned my decision repeatedly. Then something shifted — I think getting wiring branches during the growing season while wood is flexible right was the turning point.

deeply personal relationship between artist and tree became apparent once the plant found its stride, and it's genuinely impressive. Displayed in a Japanese-inspired garden display with gravel and stone it gets the attention it deserves. repotting temperate species in early spring before buds break was the moment it stopped being a project and became a pleasure. One thing to keep on top of: over-wiring causing wire bite scarring on branches. Everything else takes care of itself once the basics are solid.
