Container growing Chinese Elm Bonsai — a practical guide from experience
I don't have a garden so a bright indoor shelf for tropical species only is my only option for Chinese Elm Bonsai. It absolutely works — with the right attention to styling with the front and viewing angle in mind from day one you can get excellent results in containers.
seasonal change including blossom, foliage colour, and bare winter silhouette is fully achievable even in a pot. repotting temperate species in early spring before buds break is just as impressive in a container as it would be in the ground, possibly more so because the plant is at closer viewing distance. The main issue to watch in containers: drying out and death from missing a day's watering in summer. Happens faster than in the ground. Highly recommend for balcony and patio gardeners.
