Honest review: Azalea Bonsai is rewarding but root bound decline from leaving in the same pot too long is real
Azalea Bonsai is a genuinely satisfying plant to grow, but I want to be upfront about one thing: root bound decline from leaving in the same pot too long. I've dealt with it twice now and it takes consistent attention to manage.
Beyond that, miniaturisation of full-grown tree characteristics makes it one of my favourites in the collection. I keep it in a dedicated display stand at eye level for appreciation which suits it well. Learning about styling with the front and viewing angle in mind from day one has been essential. autumn colour on deciduous species before leaf fall is worth waiting for — the plant really justifies itself then. Four stars because of that persistent issue.
