The unexpected joy of growing Golden Bamboo

I planted Golden Bamboo without expecting much and it's become one of the most satisfying things in my garden. beautiful sound of canes moving in wind is something I couldn't have predicted from looking at it in a nursery. You only understand it once the plant is established and performing.

I keep it in a windbreak planting in an exposed position which is perfect for it. installing a root barrier for running bamboo before planting was the thing I got lucky getting right early. cane hardening and leafing out through summer stopped me in my tracks the first time I saw it. running bamboo spreading beyond its intended boundary is a real thing — just check regularly and deal with it quickly.
