Three things I wish someone had told me before growing Giant Bamboo

After growing Giant Bamboo for over a year here is what I'd tell a beginner.

First: removing the oldest and most congested canes each spring is not optional — it's the foundation everything else depends on. Second: new canes not reaching full height in the first year will happen and you should know how to handle it before it does. Third: a windbreak planting in an exposed position genuinely matters — the right position unlocks year-round evergreen screening and architectural presence in a way a poor position never will. cane hardening and leafing out through summer is the payoff for getting all of this right. It's worth every bit of effort.
