Overrated for ease, underrated for beauty — Fargesia Bamboo
People describe Fargesia Bamboo as easy and I'd push back on that slightly. installing a root barrier for running bamboo before planting needs consistent attention and new canes not reaching full height in the first year can undermine progress quickly if ignored.
Where Fargesia Bamboo is genuinely underrated is the beauty. year-round evergreen screening and architectural presence is extraordinary when you see it in person. I display it in a windbreak planting in an exposed position and it gets comments from everyone who sees it. cane hardening and leafing out through summer is the time to really understand what this plant offers. Not for the truly neglectful gardener, but absolutely worth the attention it requires.
