I planted Fargesia Bamboo at entirely the wrong point in the growing calendar and spent the first few months wondering what I'd done wrong. new canes not reaching full height in the first year didn't help matters. Once I understood watering heavily in the first season to establish the root system things improved substantially.

year-round evergreen screening and architectural presence is what makes this plant worth persisting with. In a Japanese or contemporary minimalist garden design it finally looks as good as I'd imagined. foliage refresh as older leaves shed in late winter redeemed the whole effort. If you're starting out: do your timing research before you plant.
