Six months with Buddha Belly Bamboo — what I actually learned

I brought Buddha Belly Bamboo home six months ago with high hopes and almost no knowledge. The first challenge was understanding feeding with a high-nitrogen fertiliser in early spring — something I hadn't expected to matter so much. Once I got that right, the whole thing settled down.

I grow it in a windbreak planting in an exposed position and the position has been ideal. exceptional tensile strength in the cane structure is what keeps drawing me back to it. new shoot emergence in spring growing at remarkable speed was the moment that made me glad I persisted through the learning curve. One honest warning: yellowing leaves from drought or nitrogen deficiency caught me off guard in month two. Stay on top of it from the start.
