I don't have a garden so a focal point specimen in a large container is my only option for Buddha Belly Bamboo. It absolutely works — with the right attention to feeding with a high-nitrogen fertiliser in early spring you can get excellent results in containers.

rapid establishment and fast vertical growth is fully achievable even in a pot. foliage refresh as older leaves shed in late winter is just as impressive in a container as it would be in the ground, possibly more so because the plant is at closer viewing distance. The main issue to watch in containers: new canes not reaching full height in the first year. Happens faster than in the ground. Highly recommend for balcony and patio gardeners.
