Started Buddha Belly Bamboo at the wrong time — lessons learned
I planted Buddha Belly Bamboo at entirely the wrong point in the growing calendar and spent the first few months wondering what I'd done wrong. die-back after mass flowering which occurs once per lifetime didn't help matters. Once I understood installing a root barrier for running bamboo before planting things improved substantially.
exceptional tensile strength in the cane structure is what makes this plant worth persisting with. In a poolside or water feature surrounding planting it finally looks as good as I'd imagined. cane hardening and leafing out through summer redeemed the whole effort. If you're starting out: do your timing research before you plant.
