Beginner success with Black Bamboo — here is what helped
As a complete beginner I was nervous about starting with Black Bamboo. It turned out to be more forgiving than I expected, as long as I paid attention to feeding with a high-nitrogen fertiliser in early spring.
I grow mine in a privacy screen along a boundary fence which is working really well. exceptional tensile strength in the cane structure was a genuine surprise — I didn't expect it to look or perform like that. new shoot emergence in spring growing at remarkable speed has been the highlight so far. My biggest mistake early on was ignoring yellowing leaves from drought or nitrogen deficiency, which I'd recommend addressing immediately.
