A year of growing Arrow Bamboo — detailed seasonal notes
Here are my notes from twelve months of growing Arrow Bamboo:
Spring: new shoot emergence in spring growing at remarkable speed. This was the moment that confirmed the whole venture. I focused on feeding with a high-nitrogen fertiliser in early spring during this period which set up the rest of the year.
exceptional tensile strength in the cane structure developed steadily through the warmer months. die-back after mass flowering which occurs once per lifetime appeared in summer and required prompt treatment. The plant in a Japanese or contemporary minimalist garden design performed better than I'd expected for the position. Overall: a rewarding year. The investment of attention is paid back generously.
