Overrated for ease, underrated for beauty — Water Hyacinth
People describe Water Hyacinth as easy and I'd push back on that slightly. dividing overcrowded plants every two or three years in spring needs consistent attention and overrunning the pond surface in productive warm summers can undermine progress quickly if ignored.
Where Water Hyacinth is genuinely underrated is the beauty. essential habitat and breeding ground for pond wildlife is extraordinary when you see it in person. I display it in a stream edge or bog garden and it gets comments from everyone who sees it. peak flowering period in midsummer is the time to really understand what this plant offers. Not for the truly neglectful gardener, but absolutely worth the attention it requires.
