Water Hyacinth seasonal highlights — a year in review
I've been growing Water Hyacinth for a full year now and want to capture what each season offered. overwintering dormancy in the pond bed was the clear high point — everything you're told about Water Hyacinth at that time of year is true. But the plant has something to offer in every season, which I hadn't expected.
extraordinary flower forms rising above or floating on the water is consistent throughout the year, which is one of its real strengths. I've settled on a natural wildlife pond with naturalistic marginal planting as the ideal position. removing dying foliage in autumn before it rots and reduces water quality was the lesson I took into next year. blanketweed algae competing for nutrients in established ponds is the only thing that interrupted the enjoyment. Otherwise: excellent.
