Beginner success with Lotus — here is what helped

As a complete beginner I was nervous about starting with Lotus. It turned out to be more forgiving than I expected, as long as I paid attention to positioning at the correct water depth for the species.

I grow mine in a half-barrel water garden for a small patio which is working really well. natural filtration improving water clarity and quality was a genuine surprise — I didn't expect it to look or perform like that. peak flowering period in midsummer has been the highlight so far. My biggest mistake early on was ignoring frost damage on tender varieties left in shallow water, which I'd recommend addressing immediately.
