Six months with Hornwort — what I actually learned
I brought Hornwort home six months ago with high hopes and almost no knowledge. The first challenge was understanding removing dying foliage in autumn before it rots and reduces water quality — something I hadn't expected to matter so much. Once I got that right, the whole thing settled down.
I grow it in a half-barrel water garden for a small patio and the position has been ideal. essential habitat and breeding ground for pond wildlife is what keeps drawing me back to it. peak flowering period in midsummer was the moment that made me glad I persisted through the learning curve. One honest warning: root-eating by water lily aphids or china mark moth caught me off guard in month two. Stay on top of it from the start.
