The first few months with Cattail were underwhelming. Almost no visible growth and I questioned my decision repeatedly. Then something shifted — I think getting removing dying foliage in autumn before it rots and reduces water quality right was the turning point.

essential habitat and breeding ground for pond wildlife became apparent once the plant found its stride, and it's genuinely impressive. Displayed in a natural wildlife pond with naturalistic marginal planting it gets the attention it deserves. peak flowering period in midsummer was the moment it stopped being a project and became a pleasure. One thing to keep on top of: frost damage on tender varieties left in shallow water. Everything else takes care of itself once the basics are solid.
