Here are my notes from twelve months of growing Blue Flag Iris:

Spring: foliage die-back and pond tidying in autumn. This was the moment that confirmed the whole venture. I focused on removing dying foliage in autumn before it rots and reduces water quality during this period which set up the rest of the year.

natural filtration improving water clarity and quality developed steadily through the warmer months. frost damage on tender varieties left in shallow water appeared in summer and required prompt treatment. The plant in a stream edge or bog garden performed better than I'd expected for the position. Overall: a rewarding year. The investment of attention is paid back generously.
