I nearly gave up on Blue Flag Iris after three months of mediocre results. Then I focused properly on removing dying foliage in autumn before it rots and reduces water quality and within a few weeks the difference was dramatic.

It now lives in a formal ornamental pond with clear water and reflections and has genuinely transformed that spot. extraordinary flower forms rising above or floating on the water is even more impressive in person than I expected from photos. foliage die-back and pond tidying in autumn was spectacular — worth every bit of patience. If you're struggling with yours, removing dying foliage in autumn before it rots and reduces water quality is almost certainly the issue.
