Beginner success with Blue Flag Iris — here is what helped

As a complete beginner I was nervous about starting with Blue Flag Iris. It turned out to be more forgiving than I expected, as long as I paid attention to removing dying foliage in autumn before it rots and reduces water quality.

I grow mine in a formal ornamental pond with clear water and reflections which is working really well. essential habitat and breeding ground for pond wildlife was a genuine surprise — I didn't expect it to look or perform like that. peak flowering period in midsummer has been the highlight so far. My biggest mistake early on was ignoring blanketweed algae competing for nutrients in established ponds, which I'd recommend addressing immediately.
