Stayed with me for weeks

Requiem for a Dream ended and I sat with it for weeks. The the destruction of the self theme kept circling back. I'd be doing something mundane and the four-way ending would pop into my head. That kind of resonance is rare.

Better on second watch

I liked Requiem for a Dream when I first saw it, but the second viewing is where it clicked. Once you notice how Darren Aronofsky plants every detail early on, the whole film transforms. Layers everywhere.

One of the greatest films ever made

I've seen Requiem for a Dream multiple times now and it just keeps getting better. Clint Mansell's score is something rarely matched in cinema. If you haven't watched it yet, clear your evening.

The supporting cast deserves more credit

Everyone focuses on the lead in Requiem for a Dream but the supporting cast is extraordinary. Every scene partner brings something real. It makes the world feel fully inhabited rather than staged.

Watched it blind and was blown away

I went into Requiem for a Dream knowing nothing — no trailer, no plot summary. I strongly recommend that approach. The the destruction of the self hits much harder when you haven't been primed for it. Go in cold.

The score elevates every scene

The music in Requiem for a Dream is so deeply married to the images that you almost can't separate them. It stays in your head days later and when you hear it again the emotions return immediately.

Can't believe I waited this long to watch it

Everyone told me to watch Requiem for a Dream for years. Finally did and instantly understood why. Ellen Burstyn's devastatingly truthful performance is immediately apparent. Now I'm recommending it just as loudly to everyone else.

Not my genre but it completely won me over

I usually avoid this kind of film but gave Requiem for a Dream a chance after constant recommendations. Completely converted. Darren Aronofsky transcends genre entirely. It works as pure human drama first and everything else second.
